Hey bloggers!
Today, I am going to
talk about yoga playlists. When most people think about yoga playlists, they
think of soft, calming, peaceful songs. Sadly, that is a stereotype of what
yoga playlist have to be. The playlist can be whatever works best for the
teacher’s, or an individual’s, practice! Some of the best classes I’ve gone to
had a rock or pop playlist. Faster paced playlists are usually used more with
Vinyasa Flow classes, while slower paced playlist are used with classes like
Hatha Yoga, or even Aerial Yoga. For anyone who may not know what the different
types of yoga are, let me explain. Vinyasa Flow is an active practice that
links movement and breath together. It’s similar to dancing, considering the
fact that you are constantly moving. Poses will not be held long in attempt to
keep the body moving. The main goal of this type of yoga is to raise your heart
rate. The faster paced songs make it easier for the yogi to change each pose to
the beat of the song. Hot Yoga is frequently done using a Vinyasa style.
Hatha Yoga is more about the basics. During this type of yoga, you
hold positions for longer amounts of times. It is more about getting into each
pose, and holding the pose, than constantly moving. This yoga is better for
beginners, and anyone who may want to find a more meditative state. Since the yogis are moving at a slower pace, and
finding a calmer state of mind, the stereotypical playlist is more popular with
Hatha Yoga. Aerial Yoga is a type of yoga that combines traditional yoga and
Pilates, with the use of a hammock. This type of yoga class commonly uses the
techniques of Hatha Yoga. Being suspended in the air, and using the hammock,
helps yogis get into positions that may be hard to do on the ground. It also
helps hold the position longer, and go into the positions deeper. Since the
yogis are taking more time to get into the poses, and holding the poses longer,
it is typical for a teacher to use a calming playlist. But remember, it is
about whatever is best FOR YOU. If you would find your calm, happy place better
while listening to your favorite hip-hop songs, you should blast those hip-hop
songs! Most of my blog posts show the biggest benefit of yoga, and that is the
fact that you can edit the practice in any to make it the perfect for you.
Whether its: the type of yoga, type of playlist, what to wear, how long you
hold each pose, or even if you should modify a pose to fit your body better. The
options are endless.
